St. Ninians Church, High Street, Galashiels, Scottish Borders.
We are a 'Youth Group' with a difference - for girls' who
are in P1 or upwards, we can offer something for them all.
As a Christian based, uniformed organisation, we do have
spiritual teaching but, rather than sit them down and read
the bible to them, we tend to teach by modernising the stories,
we also teach by singing and drawing etc. So although the
girls' are having fun, they are still learning a bit about
the workings of Jesus.
We have been going now for around 20 years and keep growing
in numbers. We average around 60 girls per year all working
towards gaining their badges at the end of term.
To keep the girls' interested, we attend Regional competitions,
have trips out, have Christmas patries and many more activities.
The girls' cover a wide variety of topics as well as fund
raising for charities.
Our year commences around the first week in September and
ends around the first week in May. We meet on Wednesday nights
in the church halls. P1 - P3 from 6pm - 7pm: P4 upwards from
7pm - 8pm.
All age groups and denominations are welcome to join us as
are parent helpers or youths over the age of 18 who may be
willing to come along to help and who knows, they may go on
to do their officer training. We also welcome girls' from
the high school who may be doing their D.O.E.Award and need
to do so many hours working with children. (please note that
we are child protection trained and any new volunteers would
have to agree to be "veted".
