Galashiels Clef Club
|
Galashiels Clef Club is a friendly and informal society for
lovers of music (vocal or instrumental) who enjoy making music
together. The only qualification for membership is a readiness
to perform music of the member's own choice from time to time
at Club meetings, whether solo or in ensemble.
Membership has been steady for many years at about 40 to
50, and comes from the central Borders area and beyond. It
includes vocalists, an ad hoc choir, pianists, string players
and some woodwind and brass players.
We normally hold eight meetings per year on Saturday evenings,
each consisting of about six items or groups of items performed
by the members for the members. Five of these meetings during
the winter period are in the Christopher Boyd Room in Old
Gala House where the club has a grand piano. In the autumn
and spring when this venue is not available due to exhibition
use, we meet in the Lucy Sanderson Hall, which has its own
grand piano.
We also provide a Concert Party on an informal basis and
without charge to share our pleasure in music with others,
mainly in sheltered housing residential homes throughout the
central Borders.
